STATEMENT: Gillum Wins Second Debate with Progressive Vision, Rejects Graham’s Negative Attacks
LARGO, Fla. — The Andrew Gillum for Governor Campaign released the following statement today from Geoff Burgan, Communications Director:
“Mayor Gillum showed tonight that he is both ready to win the Democratic nomination and the November general election. He demonstrated yet again why he’s the candidate that voters best connect with, and he continues to lead the field on bold, progressive ideas.”
Gillum deftly re-directed Congresswoman Graham’s negative and false attack — mere minutes after she promised that “when they go low, we go high.” It appears the Congresswoman did not live up to that critical saying.
In the wake of Stacey Abrams’ win in Georgia, Gillum has received national endorsements from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC), the Working Families Party (WFP), famed television producer Norman Lear, and nationally-syndicated radio host Charlamagne Tha God from the Breakfast Club.
Gillum is the most viably progressive candidate for Governor in Florida’s history. He has plans to make healthcare more affordable through Medicare for All, increase spending on education and workforce training through a corporate tax adjustment and marijuana legalization, and raise the minimum wage in Florida to $15 an hour. He has helped high school students get registered to vote in the aftermath of the Parkland tragedy, been sued by the gun lobby twice and won, and has the “best gun-control cred” according to POLITICO Florida’s Marc Caputo.
