STATEMENT: Gillum Knocks Opponents for Canceling Orlando Debate, Will Host Town Hall on Tuesday
ORLANDO, Fla. — Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum released the following statement today:
“It’s critical that Orange County voters hear about our priorities for this state, and since my opponents refuse to join me for a debate, I’m looking forward to hosting a town hall in its place on Tuesday night. Floridians need to know where we stand, and who we stand for,” said Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.
The Gillum campaign will be hosting a town hall event for Orange County Democrats and other Central Floridians on Tuesday night in place of the debate. More details will be announced shortly.
From Orlando Sentinel, May 2018: “Graham’s campaign appeared to be balking at the idea, however. “Gwen looks forward to participating in all five of the debates that all four candidates, including Mayor Gillum, worked together to schedule and agreed would form the calendar for the primary,’’ said Graham spokesman Matt Harringer on Wednesday. Levine’s camp did not respond to a request for comment.”
The Graham and Levine campaigns refused to join the Orange County Democrats debate this coming Tuesday, and as a result the debate had to be canceled.
Both of their campaigns have up until recently refused to agree to a debate in Jacksonville in Duval County — a critical battleground county in November.
