ICYMI: Huffington Post Spotlights Gillum’s Hit on Rick Scott, the “Election Year Environmentalist”
As Governor Rick Scott received a political gift from Donald Trump before his Trump-backed Senate run later this year, Democrats across the state criticized them for a nakedly political stunt over offshore drilling. Mayor Andrew Gillum once again led the resistance, and in their article “Florida Gov. Rick Scott Has Repeatedly Flip-Flopped On Offshore Oil Drilling”, the Huffington Post noted his leadership around Scott’s election year conversion:
“Scott continues to reject the science behind climate change. Yet in an attention-grabbing turnaround in November, his administration acknowledged the reality of rising sea levels and requested $3.6 million for coastal “resilience” projects in his proposed $87.4 billion budget. The previous month, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, dubbed Scott “the election year environmentalist.”
Gillum has the strongest environmental record in the Democratic primary field. Under his leadership, Tallahassee opened a 120-acre solar farm, he promised to keep Florida and Tallahassee in the Paris Climate Accord, led the charge to to ban fracking in Tallahassee, and opposed Big Oil Pipelines like Keystone XL.
